Since the beginning of this year I learnt a lot new things about my self as a PE student. I have improved in many different areas, some of which I didn't even know about, through the many activities we did during this year.
Participation:
My participation in this was good. I was always on time for class in proper gym strip, ready to go. Only a few times was I away and it was always for a school event. During games, I was always on task and open to any suggests or changes my classmates had to improve the game. I keep encouraging and motivating my teammates to raise the level of intensity even if the game isn't very physically demanding. This means that not only was I physically there but I was also mentally present. My skill level in most games is average but I still try to improve and learn from people who are at a higher skill level than me to make the most out of any game. My motivation for my selection on choice days really depends on my mood that day. If I feel very energetic, my friends and I play a game that we already know but at a higher intensity level. If I feel very curious, my friends and I play a new game and learn it.
Social Responsibility and Contribution to the Class:
This year I grew as a leader due to the younger grade 8's. They helped me with my leader skills and I helped whenever they needed it. I learnt a few of their names and found that one of them is my neighbour!! As I have said many times before, I always bring a smile to class and try to keep my fellow classmates enthusiastic, positive and motivated. I encourage them to try their very best and push themselves to the reach their maximum. By doing this, I also keep my self motivated and positive. I help anyone who needs it not only my class. On choice days I help organize teams, set up and get the game started. After the games are done I help put the equipment away. I always speak honestly about my fitness in general and my fitness scores. During competition I do exactly the same. In the community, I volunteer as much as my busy schedule allows me to. I have volunteered at the Aim Games, teaching bocce. This helped me think about my life differently and be grateful. The Games gave me new and different experience. I also volunteered at the Sullivan Carnival, doing henna the whole time. I met many people but after my hand got sore and cramped up. But it was an amazing experience.
Healthy Living:
Last year, we did the hill run once and I barely finished it. This year when we did it, I completed it and my heart rate was 50 beats per 25 sec. This meant I pushed myself to the my maximum that day. We haven't done a beep test in a while, but here are my scores from the beginning of the year until now:
Body Press: 13/14/15/17 Body Bridge: 80/91/102/110
T-Test: 15.8/15/14.5/14.3 Sit and Reach: 5/5/5/4
Max Vertical: 30/35/38/42 Board: 9/8/7/6
Beep Test: 7.2/8.1/8.6/8.6
These scores indicate that I have maintained and improved my fitness throughout the year. Next year, on the first testing day I want get the same score that I got on my last fitness testing day. To achieve this I plan to do some the fitness activities that we learnt this year, go for runs and go to the gym as often as I can to keep myself at the same fitness level. This summer I am planning to take badminton lessons and improve my skills. Some days when I am or feel sick I try my best but those days aren't my best for fitness testing results. My dietary choices are improving because of the tips we get in PE and the ones I get in Foods. Foods is helping me a lot with making the right food choices and has encouraged me make more of my food at home rather than buying it packaged. I'm still on Bhangra team and am hoping make the school team next year. Bhangra helps me calm myself down but sometimes it helps to get rid of my excess energy and my frustration, anger, worries and stress. By doing this, I improve my mood and my health.
Digital Portfolio and Reflective Skills:
As I have mentioned in previous blogs, I don't have a device that I can take pictures or make videos with. I sometimes use my friend's device but she usually ends up deleting my pictures. Here is one picture she didn't delete.
