Final Portfolio Assessment "Report Card" Post

Since the beginning of this year I learnt a lot new things about my self as a PE student. I have improved in many different areas, some of which I didn't even know about, through the many activities we did during this year.

Participation:

My participation in this was good. I was always on time for class in proper gym strip, ready to go. Only a few times was I away and it was always for a school event. During games, I was always on task and open to any suggests or changes my classmates had to improve the game. I keep encouraging and motivating my teammates to raise the level of intensity even if the game isn't very physically demanding. This means that not only was I physically there but I was also mentally present. My skill level in most games is average but I still try to improve and learn from people who are at a higher skill level than me to make the most out of any game. My motivation for my selection on choice days really depends on my mood that day. If I feel very energetic, my friends and I play a game that we already know but at a higher intensity level. If I feel very curious, my friends and I play a new game and learn it.

Social Responsibility and Contribution to the Class:

This year I grew as a leader due to the younger grade 8's. They helped me with my leader skills and I helped whenever they needed it. I learnt a few of their names and found that one of them is my neighbour!! As I have said many times before, I always bring a smile to class and try to keep my fellow classmates enthusiastic, positive and motivated. I encourage them to try their very best and push themselves to the reach their maximum. By doing this, I also keep my self motivated and positive. I help anyone who needs it not only my class. On choice days I help organize teams, set up and get the game started. After the games are done I help put the equipment away. I always speak honestly about my fitness in general and my fitness scores. During competition I do exactly the same. In the community, I volunteer as much as my busy schedule allows me to. I have volunteered at the Aim Games, teaching bocce. This helped me think about my life differently and be grateful. The Games gave me new and different experience. I also volunteered at the Sullivan Carnival, doing henna the whole time. I met many people but after my hand got sore and cramped up. But it was an amazing experience.

Healthy Living:

Last year, we did the hill run once and I barely finished it. This year when we did it, I completed it and my heart rate was 50 beats per 25 sec. This meant I pushed myself to the my maximum that day. We haven't done a beep test in a while, but here are my scores from the beginning of the year until now:

Body Press: 13/14/15/17                              Body Bridge: 80/91/102/110
T-Test: 15.8/15/14.5/14.3                            Sit and Reach: 5/5/5/4
Max Vertical: 30/35/38/42                            Board: 9/8/7/6
Beep Test: 7.2/8.1/8.6/8.6

These scores indicate that I have maintained and improved my fitness throughout the year. Next year, on the first testing day I want get the same score that I got on my last fitness testing day. To achieve this I plan to do some the fitness activities that we learnt this year, go for runs and go to the gym as often as I can to keep myself at the same fitness level. This summer I am planning to take badminton lessons and improve my skills. Some days when I am or feel sick I try my best but those days aren't my best for fitness testing results. My dietary choices are improving because of the tips we get in PE and the ones I get in Foods. Foods is helping me a lot with making the right food choices and has encouraged me make more of my food at home rather than buying it packaged. I'm still on Bhangra team and am hoping make the school team next year. Bhangra helps me calm myself down but sometimes it helps to get rid of my excess energy and my frustration, anger, worries and stress. By doing this, I improve my mood and my health.

Digital Portfolio and Reflective Skills:

As I have mentioned in previous blogs, I don't have a device that I can take pictures or make videos with. I sometimes use my friend's device but she usually ends up deleting my pictures. Here is one picture she didn't delete.

April Report

As the year is progressing I'm learning and discovering many new things about myself such as how to keep myself motivated, the difference between mental tiredness and body tiredness etc. I keep myself motivated by staying with someone who is fitter than me and try to learn a few tips and keep up with them in runs - beep test, pond run, running circuit. The difference between metal tiredness and physical tiredness is very hard to tell, but when i think that I'm tired (the last 10 - 15 minutes of an activity) I push my body and keep going maintaining the same speed throughout the activity. I think i deserve a G for work habit because of many reasons. One reason is that I'm always on time for class and i always have gym strip. To make gym class fun and enjoyable for me and my peers i bring a smile and a positive attitude to class. I'm also getting better at my leadership abilities and i encourage/motivate my peers and I'm making new friends in this class. As for making healthy decisions I'm getting better at them since this class teaches me a lot about health and its benefits and my foods class is also helping me in choosing healthy, nutritious foods that aren't very complicated to make. This class has also teaches me how to do fitness in many different and equally fun ways that i do with my family on the weekends. As I said in the last blog post I'm doing very good in my bhangra team and I'm hoping to make the school bhangra team next time since i was very close to making it this year by making it to the last cut. I'm also very happy that there is a junior badminton team and I'm tried out and made the team for the girls single and mixed doubles with Mikey. We have had 3 games so far and during them i have grown as a player by versing many strong, competitive players and from the tips from my partner, Mickey. Next week there are Surrey Championships and I'm not going for singles but for mixed doubles. We hope to keep up our winning streak. I have improved greatly in leadership abilities, and my fitness test results:
Body Press: 17                                Body Bridge: 110
T-Test: 14.3                                    Sit and Reach: 4
Max Vertical: 42                              Board Touches: 6
Beep Test: 8.6                                 Heart Rate: 210 per min.

Beep Test Norms
My sit and reach hasn't improved but actually went down but I think its because I have grown and I have to get back to the same flexibility. On Tuesday this week we did insanity and I used a step counter and aimed to get to 3000 steps in the workout but I made it to 2752 which I was very proud of because I didn't expect to get so close to 3000. This is why I think I deserve a A and a G. And like I said last time I love to come to this class, it's a place where I can work towards my goals with other people, people that will become my friends through the journey. But one thing that I would like to be changed in this class is that we should do more activities with just our class to get to know each other better because most people don't each others names.

Semester-End Blogpost and Formal Assessment

Over the past few months I have learnt a lot about my abilities and have grown as a person. I think I deserve an A and a G for my work habits. I think this because I have always been on time for attendance and haven't been absent without a reason. I also always have my gym strip. I have improved in my fitness and this shows in my beep test results which are the following. On the first beep test I got 7.2 and was proud of myself because it wasn't much lower than my last beep test last year. That proved to me that the fitness activities that I learnt and did over the summer really helped keep me in shape and so did my bhangra team practices. On the second beep test I got 8.1 which was much better than the first. This has given me courage to think that I can improve. On the third beep test I got 8.6. The other results are:
Body Press: 13 / 14 / 15      Body Bridge: 80 / 91 / 102
T-Test: 15.8 / 15 / 14.5                       Sit and Reach: 5 / 5 / 5
Max Vertical: 30 / 35 /38                              Board: 9 / 8 / 7
I have always been enthusiastic towards whatever we do so that my enthusiasm can help my peers get involved. I also put in my best effort to get through fitness with a smile on my face to encourage my peers and support them through the fitness activity. I'm always prepared for PE with my gym strip, enthusiasm and a smile. I have learnt to pace myself even better than last year and this has helped me during fitness activities such as the pond run and the beep test. I go to my bhangra team practices and put my best effort to please my team and teacher. I also try to go to the gym once a day except for the days that I have lots of homework and on those days I do floor exercises at home. I eat lots of fruits and vegetables during the day. I also try to make my meals balanced with at least one thing from each food group. This helps keep my energy level up and lets me perform at my best for PE, bhangra practices and at school studies. I show leadership by encouraging my peers and being a role model by doing PE with a smile on my face.  I prevent injuries in my class by being aware about who is around me all the time and being careful about how my actions could affect the people around me. If anything should happen I would first ask someone to stay with the person who is injuried and I would go to the closest teacher and tell them about the situation. During the class I have volunteered to demonstrate the game with the hula hoop and bean bags and to put equipment away. Something I enjoyed in the course so far is how our class has had a lot of time to interact with the students in other classes but the thing I would like to see changed is that our class should do more activities with just our class so we can learn a lot more about our class and one another's names, since most people don't know them. My favourite types of fitness activities are the community run, pond run, loco locomotive, 30 - 30, and circuit. There are no limitations that I think I have in gym class except for my mental strength, which I'm trying to strengthen. My goals for this year are: to make more friends in this class and in other classes, to have more confidence in myself, to improve my fitness levels, strengthen my mental strength and to join the school badminton team since last year there wasn't one because of the lack of coaches. So far I have achieved some of my goals from the beginning of the year and now I know that these goals will also be achieved by the end of the year if I can keep the promises I made myself.
